Nature most commonly refers to the “natural environment”, the Earth’s environment or wilderness— including geology, forests, oceans, rivers, beaches, the atmosphere, life, and in general geographic areas that have not been substantially altered by humans, or which persist despite human intervention Natural Beauty In Kodachadri. Kodachadri is the one of the spectacular location in Karnataka, is about 32km from Kollur and . Also known as “DakshinaKashi” (Kashi of South India) which is situated at 4215m above the sea level. Kodachadri is the “Second Scenic Trekking Everest” in Karnataka. It has the Parvatheshvara temple which is the origin place of the Kollur Mookambika Temple. Nearer to this temple Shankaracharya’s Peeta (stone hall) is located and it is called as “Sarvajna Peeta”. In addition to this, place has an iron pillar as one of the story says that it was used as weapon by goddess Mookambika in order to kill Mookasura. This Iron pillar didn’t get rusty even after crossing the age column of centuries. Watching sunrise, sunset and full moon by sitting over here is a great experience.

  • Trekking in Kodachadri and Transport

    Trekking to Kodachadri peak starts from Nagodi village or Nittur, Shimoga village which are located at the base of Kodachadri. A night tented stay can be undertaken near peak with the permission of Forest Department, Govt. of Karnataka. In case of need, there is an inspection bungalow maintained by Government of Karnataka and a temple priest’s house, with simple food on request. There is little accommodation at Kodachadri. Kollur (about 21 km from Kodachadri) has several Guest House and lodges as well as homestay accommodation. Nearest Town Kundapura has Lodging accommodation.

    From Bangalore, one has to go to Shimoga (285 km) and from there, one can take public transport to reach Nagodi village (Hosanagara Taluk). From Udupi, it is three hours journey to Nagodi village, from where trekking starts. Kodachadri peak is connected with an all rough road on which only jeeps can travel. As this hilly road is not maintained properly, only expert local jeep drivers can take the jeep to the top. Jeeps are available for hire at Kollur and also at Kattinahole village near Kodachadri base. It is advisable to take your own vehicle or taxi until Kollur and then hire Jeep near Kodachadri base.
