A cockfight is a blood sport between two roosters, held in a ring called a cockpit. Cockfighting is now illegal. This sports is usually conducted in the vicinity of temples or country bar (gadang) and still goes on albeit surreptitiously and furtively in many surrounding parts of Mangalore or Tulunadu. There may be a religious basis for this sport, most of the time it will conducted at evening or at night of the festival day.

Kori Katta (Tulu) or Korida Katta (Koli Anka in Kannada) is one of the traditional event rural community in Mangalore and entire Tulunadu (Mangalore, Udupi and Kasargod Districts).

Its a fight between Two cocks, they let their cock fight against each other, these cocks are armed with razor sharp steel blades tied to their feet.These blades are specially made for this fight only. This fight is till one cock dies in the fight or wound beyond survive.

These cocks are breed with special care only for this event. Some Places Police raid such cock fight still many People flock around the scene and participate in the event. Lots of betting takes place and is full of fun, betting is illegal.

The defeated cock(died or wounded) given to owner of winner cock. Usually Kori Sukka and Kori Rotti is made from this Dead cock to celebrate Victory of cock fight.

Some of the names for the cock usually we call in Cock fight are Bolle, Maipe, Karbolle, Kemmaire, Kadle, Uriye, Kupule and Peradinge. Peradinge look like Hen instead cock, small in size and very cunning, other cock think its hen and do not start fighting. Perade means Hen in tulu.

To watch this event more than hundreds of people gather around with excitement; atmosphere can get quite tense and the experience can be exhilarating. Now a days as this sport is banned, only people directly involved know where it is being conducted. Women as a general rule are not allowed to watch this sport.
