Abbey Falls, sometimes referred to as Abby Falls, is situated in the Western Ghats of Kodagu District Karnataka, India. It is located about 10 km from the town of Madikeri town and 270 km from Bangalore and 140 km from Mangalore. Reaching the Abbey Falls place is a fantastic ride in itself as the road that you drive on is very narrow with lots of turns and twists, ups and downs. A smiling mother nature welcomes you at every turn. This famous falls, situated on a private property, attracts a large number of tourists around the globe. The falls is more enjoyable within the fenced area where-from you get its friendly pose for your camera. The best place to have a better view of the falls is by standing on the hanging bridge opposite to the falls itself.
In the mountains of the Western Ghats, several streams combine, swelling with the monsoon rains and plunging down the mountain slope at enormous speed, hitting the huge boulders hard and forcing through the crevices and ravines. A misty cloud hangs over the falls. From here the water flows into the Kaveri River.

The Abbey waterfall is located between private coffee plantations with stocky coffee bushes and spice estates with trees entwined with pepper vines. The falls appear suddenly, the water cascading over rocks into calm pools.
How to Reach Abbey Falls
From Madikeri town the falls are accessible by a narrow road to the coffee estate. A path through coffee and cardamom plantations leads to the waterfalls. The roar of the falls can be heard from the road.
Best Time to Visit Abbey Falls
During the monsoon season the water flow is very high. During the dry seasons the flow is considerably diminished. The best time to visit is early winter (from November to January) when the monsoons have brought plenty of water.
