Hebbe Falls

Hebbe Falls is one of the most picturesque tourist destinations of Chikmagalur district, Karnataka, India. Hebbe Falls is located about 8 km from the picturesque hill station Kemmangundi, a summer retreat of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. Hebbe Falls is surrounded by dense forests and coffee plantations, Hebbe Falls gushes down from a height of 168 meters in two stages to form Dodda Hebbe (Big Falls) and Chikka Hebbe (Small Falls). Hebbe Falls is a perfect retreat from the busy city life and it is one of the must visit tourist spots in Karnataka.

The best time to visit Hebbe Falls is early winter (From October to January) when you can take advantage of the various flora and fauna nearby Hebbe Falls. Kalhattagiri falls or Kalhatti falls is another place of interest nearby.

This waterfalls are inside a coffee estate and can be reached either by walk, two-wheeler or four-wheeler. You need to hire a jeep since it is not possible to go in car. They charge around Rs 2000 round trip from Kalhatti falls. The driver will also with you as a guide to help trekking route. Trekking experience will be awesome, it is advisable to take a guide if you are visiting the place for the first time. Leeches will be there in numbers, especially during the monsoon, but you will get used to them eventually. Carry match box or lighter, it will help in getting the leeches off. The trekking route is slippery at some stages. It was a wholesome experience, almost 2-3 hours of trekking, amazing view of the falls, and the thrilling jeep ride. Carry snacks and water, make sure you don’t pollute the place.

Latest Update

As of 30th Sept 2012, the falls remain closed due to a recent Supreme Court order banning tourism in tiger reserves.
